In September 2023, Member States reaffirmed their commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) during the 2nd High-Level Meeting on UHC at the UN General Assembly. The resulting Political Declaration emphasized gender-responsive health systems and the need to address gender inequities in achieving health for all.
Building on this momentum, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health and Women in Global Health Switzerland co-hosted an event in November 2023, “Health for All: Time for Gender Action on UHC,” which outlined six key recommendations to strengthen gender integration into UHC efforts—ranging from improved data and accountability to workforce equity and broader, more inclusive definitions of gender in health.
